Not a great contract, not a bad one. A move that makes sense. Makes less sense why Vegas never gave him this contract.

I'm not an accountant, but the rumour was that Vegas was offering him 5X5. Is he actually making less money playing in Alberta since they have an income tax and Nevada doesn't? Is it just an ego thing where the actual money he makes doesn't matter since it's a ridiculous amount, and it's more important that the number on the contract is bigger?

Don't know, could also be he didn't want to be part of Vegas anymore... Flames probably have a better chance next season than the Golden Knights.

Neal's better half has come out publically that 5x5 was never on the table from Vegas.

I've read a few pieces that seem to indicate that term wasn't something McPhee was offering. Probably why Perron wasn't retained either.

Now we just need to see who gets shipped out and when.

Anyone know how many contracts Flames currently have signed?

Neal's game doesnt rely on speed AT ALL. He just posts up and makes his stick available. Probably a safe bet he will continue doing his goal scoring thing through the contract.

Reminds me of the Frolik contract. It's a little pricey but overall a pretty fair deal for an UFA.

I believe Vegas let some of their UFA's walk because they didn't want to sign a bunch of vets to long term deals when they have so many young players & picks/prospects working their way through the system that will need contracts in a few years.

Income tax in Alberta including federal tax would be 40 to 45% of his income. I'm not sure what the exact number is but it is a substantial amount. That's how it is in almost all provinces. It's why you can get stamkos on an 8 million dollar contract in florida. He will literally make more in Florida than on a 12 mill in canada. Although I do think the players above the border are offered more endorsement deals.

Hey Todd
what was our scoring like the previous year?
Yes we were 27th in league scoring, but last year everything seemed to go wrong

I don't disagree that we've upgraded and we should always look to be better, but I think the previous year we were probably all a bit lacking and many had down years

Would still like to see some of the young guys start stepping up

you have to also consider that they make money in USD but then can spend in CAD
that's a 25% bonus right there if you convert your USD into spending in CAD for living costs etc....

Nice signing. Neal is a pretty solid, consistent goal scorer. I really like the Flames lineup.

That's offset by the fact that a lot of things are significantly more expensive in Canada. But none of that really matters when you're making hockey player money.

It's slightly cheaper to live in Vegas.

That's not accurate. Floridians still have to pay federal income tax which is almost 40%.

What's significantly more expensive in Canada? Gas?
Housing? Depends where you live, if you're in a metropolitan city, the housing is gonna be just as pricey

Well if he's an alcoholic and chain smoker like O-G then things are more expensive.

If he's just into hookers and blow like geta02it then he's fine.
